My background is largely working with and supporting people with Mental Health conditions, Acquired Brain Injury and in the Aged Care setting. I have worked in the Mental Health and Disability sector for over 14 years.
For many people the NDIS can be confusing and daunting, with lots of information and strange terms. Unfortunately it doesn't come with a map and a compass. So the job of the Support Coordinator is to assist you to better understand the information and language to make the most of your NDIS plan. With understanding you are better placed to make choices that best suit you and over time you will be able to manage your plan and services yourself.
It is important to understand it is YOUR NDIS plan and you have Choice and Control regarding the services and people who will work with you in achieving your NDIS goals. This includes the choosing your Support Coordinator.
If you have Support Coordination or Recovery Coach* funded in your plan you can choose your Support Coordinator.
Let's get to know one another. It is important you feel comfortable with the person who will be helping you navigate this NDIS thing. So we can have a chat face to face, via Zoom or over the phone. What ever suits you best. I am also happy to speak with the people who support you in your family or the community.
I will go through my obligations and responsibilities, provide information about what you can expect. Also your responsibilities when working with a NDIS funded service.
Time for me to get to work based on your choices. This might included finding support services or allied health services, identifying community groups/special interest groups you would like to connect with.
One of the most important things I will do is help you prepare for your NDIS review.
